Bio

Uri Averbuch was born in St. Petersburg on July 5, 1971. He drew before he spoke. At the age of five, when he immigrated to Israel, his drawings were not allowed to leave the former U.S.S.R. Art was not allowed to leave the country. The soviet officials deemed his work to be art.

Upon arriving in Israel, the harsh reality of immigrant life, with a new language, caused him to rely more deeply on his ability to communicate through images. He began to keep visual diaries of the characters that inhabited his world.

At the age of twelve, Uri began his formal studies at the Haifa museum of art, Where for the next three years he absorbed the history of art and learned the art of print making: ‘etching, silk print, wood & linoleum cutting & stone printing’.
